Reading Buddies is a program designed to help children who are in grades one through six practice their reading skills out loud with teen volunteers. This program runs from March to June at select branches. Limited positions available.
1 hour, once a week
March 23 - June 12
Speak and write English well
Experience and/or interested in working with children and literacy
Able to work with children on a one-to-one basis as well as in a group environment
Act as a good role model for children
Be reliable, patient and trustworthy
Attend a training session before starting
Meet with children registered in the program at the library at a set time weekly
Help children with their reading
Provide positive feedback and encouragement
Always abide by the Library’s Code of Conduct
Earn volunteer hours
Gain experience working with children
Enjoy the benefit of helping children improve their reading skills
