Temporary West Harbour Branch
Hamilton Public Library will open a temporary West Harbour Branch at the former Canadian Marine Discovery Centre (77 Harbourside Way) in summer 2026. This interim location brings library services to the waterfront while long-term planning for the Discovery Centre continues.
What to expect
- A small, pop-up library space with core services
- Programs and community activities
- An Indigenous-focused collection of books and resources
- A welcoming place to connect, learn and gather by the water
The space is being refreshed with minimal, targeted updates to support library use, including adjustments to layout, shelving and program areas. Existing finishes and furnishings are largely being reused to support a cost-effective, functional design.
Why a temporary branch?
Opening a temporary branch ensures the site is active and accessible now, while longer-term planning continues in collaboration with Indigenous communities, the City of Hamilton and project partners.
Looking ahead
The temporary branch is part of a broader vision for the Discovery Centre that includes:
- A new, permanent library branch
- Indigenous gathering and cultural spaces
- Cultural heritage exhibition areas
- Café and visitor amenities
The long-term Study is underway, with recommendations expected to be presented to Council in 2027.
