Central Library Renovations
The next phase of Central Library renovations is underway. This project is a continuation of the renovation work that began in 2010 with the award winning transformation of Central Library's first floor.
As part of this phase, we will be:
- Renovating the Hamilton-Wentworth auditorium to meet the City of Hamilton's Barrier-Free Accessibility Guidelines;
- Building an additional Program Room to the first floor;
- Renovating the fourth floor to incorporate a new Discovery Space that will include a Digital Media Lab, sound studio, green screen video production room, 3D printing, 3D scanning, vinyl cutter and more;
- Relocating HPL's Technical Services Department from our Stoney Creek facility to the Central Library to improve workflows.
The Central Library welcomes more than one million visitors every year and we are excited to offer a greater range of services to better meet the needs of all our users. We will be making every effort to minimize disruption to our customers during this project and we appreciate your patience and understanding.
The design was completed by McCallum Sather and APM was the successful proponent for the construction phase.
HPL is proud to continue to grow and evolve library spaces as a community beacon and respond to the changing needs of our community. We anticipate that renovations will be completed by the end of this year.
