Central Library: Children's Area Renovation on 2nd Floor

Renovations are currently underway for the 2nd floor Central Children's Area. Programs are still being offered as scheduled and there is a temporary pop-up Children’s Area on the northeast side of the 2nd floor (near the Piano Room), including access to collections and train tables. Construction is expected to be completed by late Spring. Thank you for your patience during this time.

Sherwood Branch: Renovations

As of Monday, March 2, Sherwood Branch's 2nd floor is closed due to renovations. Makerspace, Children and Teen's collection are temporarily available on the 1st floor. Hamilton 3D Printing Collaboration

The 4th Floor of Central Library is abuzz with the sound of 3D printers creating face shields, face shield frames and ear savers to protect frontline workers batting COVID-19.

The printers come from the City of Hamilton, Hamilton Public Library, Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board, Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board and Innovation Factory. Further assistance comes from shop3D.

If you’d like to help with this collaborated effort, here are some answers to commonly asked questions.

Q. I have a 3D printer. How can I help?

A. Download the STL files below and start printing your own parts.

Q. What material should I use to print?

A. The recommended material is PLA. This has been tested and is the most sanitary.

 

Q. What are the suggest 3D print settings?

A. Here's the list:

  • Units are in mm
  • 100% infill
  • No supports, rafts or brim necessary
  • 0.3 mm layer height (for faster printing)
  • 100 mm/sec or higher print speed
  • No need to wait for the part to cool before removing. Hold it in the desired shape for a few seconds after

 

Q. Do I need to supply the elastics and visor sheets?

A. No. The team at Hamilton Public Library, in conjunction with the City of Hamilton, are sourcing these parts.

 

Q. Where do I send or drop off the items?

A. Please consolidate shipments/drop-offs if you plan to produce multiple items. Completed components can also be dropped off with Security at the Central Library (address below).

Q. Where should I send materials to donate?

A. If you have plastic materials contact shop3D at sales@shop3D.ca, or call 905-501-8558. Shop3D is doing the laser cutting.
If you have filament you can contribute, send it to Central Library, 55 York St., Hamilton.
