William Eli Sanford (1838 - 1899)
Inducted posthumously, William Eli Sanford was the founder of W. E. Sanford Manufacturing Company. Opened in 1860, it became the largest clothing manufacturer in the British Empire and the first in Canada to establish commercial trade with the Red River settlement in Winnipeg. He founded several organizations dedicated to providing food and work for displaced people from coast to coast. Sanford was called to the Senate by Sir John A. Macdonald in 1887 and was the founding commodore of the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club in 1890.
