Steelworkers and Industry by Steven Agro
As a former employee of Stelco, I have experienced the inner workings of the steel industry. More importantly, I was inspired to document the immediate energy and heat found within the four walls of the steel mills while also honouring a population of Hamiltonians. They deserve recognition for their endurance and productivity. I have captured these impressions through my oil paintings. With the significant changes and downsizing in the steel industry, many of the steel processes I present are no longer used. I believe this has harmed Hamilton in the form of job losses. I hope there might be some historical perspective to see in these paintings so that people can remember them as a historical record of the steel industry of Hamilton.
Steven's works have appeared in private and corporate collections.
- Hamilton Art Sales and Rentals at the Hamilton Art Gallery
- Burlington Art Centre
- Earls Court Gallery
- Dundas Valley School of Art Auction
I have also participated in solo and group shows. Most recently, I was one of a few artists featured in Building Cultural Legacies.
