Edward Alexander Colquhoun

Colquhoun was educated at Berlin (Kitchener) and at age 19 began working in Ottawa for the Bank of Montreal. In 1872 he transferred to the Bank of Hamilton and became manager in 1882. He resigned in 1888 due to health problems and lived in retirement on the West Mountain at Barton Lodge. In 1894 Colquhoun entered politics serving as alderman of Ward 2 for two years. He was elected Mayor in 1897 and 1898. In 1898 he was elected as the Conservative Member of the Ontario Legislature, defeating John Morison Gibson. He was not renominated in 1902 so he ran as an independent, was defeated and retired permanently.
