Robert E. Wade

Robert E. Wade came to Ancaster from the London area in the fall of 1960 when his company, London Life Insurance Company, transferred him. He was elected to Ancaster's Town council in 1978 and served for 22 years, including 16 years as the Mayor of Ancaster. The City of Hamilton amalgamated with the old constituent municipalities of the Region in 2000. In the election held in 1999 he ran against the incumbent Mayor of Hamilton, Bob Morrow, and won election as the first Mayor of the new City of Hamilton. He served one term and retired from politics in 2003 after a total of 25 years in public life.
