HAMILTON, ON – March 16, 2016 – Hamilton’s exciting local music scene and robust music legacy have a direct influence on Hamilton Public Library. Building on the City of Hamilton’s Music Strategy, Hamilton Public Library has created its own strategy to guide music programming, services and collections. Music lives here.
Hamilton Public Library’s collections offer something for everyone. Holdings include sheet music, music CDs, DVDs and Blu-Rays as well as books covering a wide range of topics. HPL’s digital offerings include Freegal and Hoopla, both providing free access to downloadable music, and Zinio with magazine titles such at Billboard, Rolling Stone and Opera Canada.
Piano practice facilities have recently been expanded and are available at our Central, Red Hill and Terryberry locations. An upright piano is housed on the second floor of the Central Library while both Red Hill and Terryberry Branches have full-size keyboards with headphones. Access to the pianos is free of charge.
Music is a key component of many of Hamilton Public Library’s programs for children and adults. Storytimes for children include songs and rhymes. A series of lunch hour concerts take place at Central Library from September to the end of June and feature fabulous local talent. In partnership with Front Room Entertainment, four in-the-round concerts will take place in The Circuit 4.0 (Central Library’s newly renovated fourth floor) in 2016 and 2017. The Trews performed for a crowd of over 400 fans just last week. The Circuit 4.0 at Central Library as well as the Terryberry and Red Hill Branches feature sound studios for recording music and podcasts – perfect for garage bands.
Community partners are also supporting music programming in library spaces. In conjunction with the City of Hamilton’s Music and Film Office, a two-day Artist Manager Bootcamp will take place on April 23 and 24 presented by Canada Music Incubator.
Music truly lives at the Hamilton Public Library and we invite you to explore our spaces and #shareyourdiscoveries.
