Waterdown Branch

Waterdown branch at dusk

Construction is still ongoing for the new Waterdown branch of Hamilton Public Library. This is our architect’s rendition of the new building, and we’re sharing the photos that show how we’re going to achieve that rendition. Staff are excited to be offering a greater range of services in a family-friendly, award-winning, multi-use facility. Built to meet the needs of the growing Flamborough population, HPL is proud to create this new community destination centre with our partners.

The new multi-use Waterdown facility will:

  • Measure 23,000 sq. ft., with library space exceeding 15,000 sq. ft.
  • Meet the City of Hamilton's Barrier-Free Accessibility Guidelines
  • Be situated on the site of the former Municipal Service Centre - 163 Dundas St. East

Residents will benefit from a community-focused space built for all ages to enjoy. Some features include:

  • Bigger and brighter children's area with access to kid-friendly technology and activities
  • Larger collections bringing Millgrove and Waterdown collections together
  • Free and improved parking
  • An outdoor reading patio overlooking Dundas St. and the Escarpment
  • Areas for quiet study and group collaboration
  • A computer lab for instruction
  • Wifi access throughout the building
  • A multi-purpose Program Room for all ages

Even before construction, this facility has won the Canadian Architect National Award of Excellence for 2013 for its innovative design.

The new facility will be home to:

  • New Flamborough Seniors' Recreation Centre
  • Flamborough Archives run by the Flamborough Heritage Society
  • Flamborough Information and Community Service
  • Flamborough Municipal Service Centre

Construction is underway. Hope to see you when we open in fall 2015.
