Specialty Library Cards

Access Card (Adult,Teen & Child)

  • Requires a single piece of identification with name.
  • Maximum of five (5) items and place a maximum of five (5) holds with regular loan periods. Maximum of one (1) Express and one (1) video game.
  • Access to our digital collections and resources wherever possible.
  • Borrowing privileges suspended if two (2) items are overdue.
  • Responsible for fines for Express items & video games ($0.50 per day to a maximum of $5.00) and fees for lost items.

Educational Cards  

  • Valid for one (1) year.
  • Renewable at expiration.
  • Institutional application form (available at all branches) must be signed by an executive or administrator who is authorized to accept financial responsibility for the organization.
  • Responsible for all lost or damaged material.
  • The Library Card must be in-hand to borrow materials.
  • Overdue notification are issued to the institution or daycare.
  • Maximum of 200 books  for a period of three (3) months. Limited to items with a 21-day loan period.
  • The Branch Manager of the lending branch reserves the right to impose limitations on the amount and type of material available or shorten the loan period if necessary.
  • Access to our digital collections and resources wherever possible.
  • Fines are charged for material returned after the three (3) month loan period

Reciprocal     

  • Reciprocal borrowing agreements are in place with the following libraries:
    • Burlington Public Library
    • Cambridge Public Library
    • County of Brant Library System
    • Grimsby Public Library
    • Haldimand Public Library
    • Milton Public Library
    • The Region of Waterloo Public Library
    • Waterloo Public Library
    • Wellington County Public Library
  • Register a card from one of the participating libraries at any HPL location and show additional ID with name and address.
  • May borrow up to eight (8) items and place two (2) holds. Access to our digital collections and resources is prohibited.

School or Corporation          

  • Valid for one (1) year
  • Renewable at expiration.
  • Corporate Application Form (available at all branches) must be signed by an executive or administrator who is authorized to accept financial responsibility for the organization. School application must be signed by the principal or teacher librarian.
  • Responsible for all lost or damaged material.
  • Overdue notifications are issued to the school or corporation.
  • Access to our digital collections and resources wherever possible.
